Pre-Admission Clinic
Once your surgery date has been confirmed it is a good idea to contact the hospital to make an appointment for the pre-admission clinic. It involves spending several hours at the hospital and you are strongly advised to attend this clinic. It is preferable if the person caring for you after your surgery comes with you also. The pre-admission clinic typically involves:
- Meeting and having individual consultations with hospital staff and the healthcare professionals who may be working with you whilst you are in hospital.
- Completing all admission and history forms including details of past and present health problems and your current and recently ceased medications.
- Familiarising yourself with the hospital.
- Advice on pathology (blood tests) services and x-rays.
- Education relating to your procedure and expected outcomes.
- Discussing discharge planning, equipment use and hire, home modifications and helpful hints.
- Finding answers for any questions you might have.
